Lovely friends,
Have you ever looked at your life and thought, âEverything is basically okay, so why do I feel like something needs to change?â
I think most of us have seasons like this. Nothing has to be terribly wrong. You can be grateful for your life, love the people in it, appreciate what you have, and still feel restless about where youâre going next.
Iâve had those periods in my own life more than once.
Sometimes I knew exactly what needed to change, and other times I just knew I wasnât quite as interested in the things that used to excite me. Something that once felt important had run its course, or I kept getting curious about something new without understanding why.
Iâve learned to pay attention when that happens.
I donât immediately assume every restless feeling is a message from Spirit. Sometimes Iâm tired. Sometimes I need a vacation. Sometimes something has become boring because Iâve been doing it too long. Weâre human, and every feeling doesnât need a giant spiritual meaning attached to it.
But sometimes that restlessness sticks around.
Thatâs when I start getting curious.
I think we make the idea of a soul purpose much bigger than it needs to be. People hear those words and immediately think there must be one important thing they came here to accomplish, and if they donât figure it out soon enough, theyâre somehow missing their assignment.
I donât believe that.
I think purpose can show up in many different ways throughout our lives. It can be part of the work we do, but it can also show up in how we love people, raise a family, create things, care for animals, solve problems, teach, listen, encourage, heal, build, protect, make people laugh, or simply make somebodyâs life a little easier because we were part of it.
Your purpose at twenty-five may look completely different from your purpose at fifty-five.
I actually hope it does.
We learn too much along the way to stay exactly the same.

One of the best ways I know to explore purpose is to look backward for a minute. What have you always been interested in? What do people naturally come to you for? What have you learned through your own experiences? What are you good at that you tend to dismiss because it comes easily to you?
And maybe most importantly, what keeps coming back?
There are things we become interested in for a month and then forget about. Then there are those ideas that keep tapping us on the shoulder for years. We may ignore them, get busy, convince ourselves theyâre impractical, and somehow they wander back into our thoughts again.
Those are the things I pay attention to.
This is one of the reasons I enjoy working with Archangel Nathaniel when Iâm thinking about purpose, change, and direction.
Nathaniel has a very different energy from some of the angels I work with. I associate him with transformation, spiritual purpose, change, motivation, and that little bit of fire we sometimes need when weâve been sitting in the same place for too long.
And I think that fire can be incredibly useful.
There are times when we know something needs to change and still keep waiting because we want to know exactly what happens afterward. We want Spirit to show us the whole plan before we take the first step.
I understand that completely because I would also enjoy receiving a detailed itinerary.
Unfortunately, Spirit has never handed me one.
Most of my own path has unfolded a piece at a time. I became interested in something, learned about it, tried it, met somebody, changed direction, developed another skill, followed another idea, and eventually looked backward and realized how many things were connected.
I couldnât see those connections while I was living them.
That is why I donât think finding your purpose always requires sitting down and asking, âWhat am I supposed to do with my entire life?â That is an enormous question.
Iâd rather ask, âWhat am I being drawn to explore next?â
That gives me somewhere to begin.
Maybe youâve been thinking about taking a class. Maybe you keep wanting to write something, start creating again, learn a healing practice, volunteer, change careers, travel, work with animals, go back to school, start a little business, or finally research something youâve been curious about for years.
You donât have to turn every interest into your life purpose.
You can explore it.
That is one of the things I wish more people gave themselves permission to do. Curiosity doesnât require a lifetime commitment. You can take the class and discover you hate it. You can try something and decide it isnât for you. You can change your mind.
You still learned something about yourself.
I also think purpose gets tangled up with fear because eventually exploring something new requires us to do something new. That might mean being a beginner again, being seen, spending money on training, having a conversation, changing a routine, or admitting that something we once wanted doesnât fit us anymore.
This is where I like asking Nathaniel for help.
I might simply say, âArchangel Nathaniel, help me understand what Iâm ready to explore next. Help me recognize what is aligned for me and give me the courage to take the next step when I see it.â
Then I pay attention.
I pay attention to ideas that keep returning, opportunities that show up, conversations that spark something in me, and those moments when I suddenly feel excited about something I havenât thought about in years.
I also use common sense.
If I suddenly feel called to completely change my life on Wednesday afternoon, Iâm allowed to think about it before Thursday morning. Spiritual guidance doesnât require us to become impulsive.
Sometimes the next step is simply researching something.
That counts.
Sometimes itâs making a phone call, signing up for a class, writing the first page, updating something, practicing a skill, asking somebody a question, or spending an hour learning about the thing that keeps catching your attention.
You can work with Spirit and still take practical steps. In fact, I think that is where things often become interesting. You ask for guidance, take the step you can see, and then discover something you couldnât have known about while you were standing still.
I also want to say something for anyone who worries that theyâve somehow waited too long to figure out their purpose.
I donât believe purpose has an expiration date.
Everything you have lived has given you experience. You know things now that you couldnât possibly have known ten or twenty years ago. You may have more confidence, better boundaries, different priorities, and a much clearer understanding of what you are willing to spend your time and energy on.
That can open completely different doors.
Maybe the thing youâre being called toward now wasnât supposed to happen earlier because you werenât the person you are now.
I find that idea exciting.
There are still parts of ourselves we havenât met yet. There are people we havenât met, things we havenât learned, places we havenât been, and interests we havenât discovered. I donât think weâre supposed to have ourselves completely figured out while weâre still living the story.
If youâre in one of those seasons where you can feel something changing, give yourself some room to explore before you demand an answer.
Ask Nathaniel to walk with you. Ask Spirit to help you notice what deserves your attention. Follow your curiosity a little farther than you normally would, and when something feels worth exploring, take one reasonable step toward it.
You donât need the five-year plan.
You just need somewhere to begin.
And sometimes purpose starts with a very simple thought:
âI wonder what would happen if I tried this.â
If youâd like some quiet space to explore that question, I created a 30-minute guided meditation with Archangel Nathaniel for exactly this kind of season. We work with his energy around purpose, transformation, releasing some of the fear around change, and opening ourselves to whatever next step weâre ready to see.
You donât have to go into the meditation knowing what youâre looking for. Give yourself the time, get quiet, and see what comes.
You might be surprised by what has been trying to get your attention.
Much love,
Lisa đ
