Lovely friends,
I know when I am getting ungrounded because I start trying to do everything at once.
I have six things open on my computer, something playing in the background, my phone is beside me, I am thinking about what I need to do later, and somehow I have convinced myself that adding one more thing to the pile is an excellent idea. I can be physically sitting in one place while my energy feels like it is scattered all over the county.
That is usually when I need to get myself back.
Grounding is one of those spiritual practices that I think has become much more important in our everyday lives. We take in so much information now. We have work, family, money, relationships, phones, social media, news, responsibilities, appointments, decisions, and other people’s needs coming at us all day long.
Even good things take energy.
After a while, I can feel when I have been giving too much of my attention away. I become less focused. Little things start irritating me more than they should. My thoughts speed up, I have a harder time deciding what actually needs my attention, and I can feel physically tired even though I haven’t necessarily done anything strenuous.
That is when I stop and ground.
Reiki is one of the ways I do that. When I begin Reiki work, I invite in my angels, loving ancestors, Spirit guides, and spiritual support team. Archangel Michael is always there for protection, clearing, courage, and helping me feel anchored in my own energy. I also invite Archangel Raphael and his healing presence to support whatever needs care physically, emotionally, mentally, or energetically.
For this particular kind of Reiki work, I also love bringing in Archangel Ariel.
Ariel has always felt very earthy and steady to me. She is commonly associated with nature, the Earth, strength, courage, protection, and the physical world. Her energy makes sense to me when I am trying to come out of my head and reconnect with the life that is actually happening around me.
Sometimes that is exactly what grounding needs to be.
Feet on the floor.
Take a breath.
Look around the room.
Come back into your body.
Figure out what actually needs to happen next.
I think we can make grounding much more complicated than it needs to be. You don’t need to sit under a tree for an hour, although I certainly won’t argue with you if that sounds good. You can ground yourself standing in your kitchen.
One of the easiest things I do is deliberately notice my physical surroundings. I feel my feet against the floor. I notice the chair underneath me. I relax my shoulders, unclench my jaw, and take a slower breath. If I am doing Reiki, I may place my hands on my body and allow the energy to flow while I give myself a few minutes to settle.
There is a nervous system piece to this too.
When we have been under pressure for a while, the body can stay on alert. We may find ourselves scanning for what needs to happen next, what could go wrong, who needs something, or what we have forgotten. Even when nothing urgent is happening in that exact moment, our body may still be acting like we need to hurry.
Grounding gives me a way to interrupt that.
I also like the idea of calling my energy back to myself. I don’t mean that I believe little pieces of me are literally floating around at the grocery store, someone’s house, and three websites I visited yesterday. For me, it is a way of noticing where my attention has been going and consciously bringing it back to where I am.
I might say, “I call my energy and attention back to me. I am here. I am safe in this moment. I can deal with what is actually in front of me.”
Then I breathe.
Energetic boundaries are another big part of this for me because sometimes feeling scattered has a lot to do with how much access we are giving everything and everyone around us.
I can care about somebody without carrying their entire emotional state around for the rest of the day. I can answer a message when I have the energy to answer it. I can turn off the news. I can put my phone down. I can decide that somebody else’s urgency doesn’t automatically become mine.
Those choices help my nervous system too.
I think this is where Ariel’s energy can be such a beautiful support. There is something very practical about connecting with the Earth and remembering that stability is built through what we do every day. Our routines, home, finances, work, relationships, boundaries, rest, and physical environment all contribute to how supported we feel.
Sometimes spiritual grounding looks surprisingly ordinary.
Clean up the space that has been bothering you.
Drink some water.
Go outside.
Pay the bill.
Make the appointment.
Finish one thing before starting four more.
Say no to something you genuinely don’t have room for.
Get some sleep.
Those things count.
I also love working with grounding crystals when I want something physical to hold during Reiki or meditation. Smoky quartz is one of my favorites for grounding and releasing some of that heavy, scattered feeling. Black tourmaline is wonderful when my intention is energetic boundaries and protection. Red jasper has a steady, earthy quality that I like when I want to feel stronger and more present in my body.
You only need one if you want to use one at all.
Hold it in your hand while you breathe or place it beside you during Reiki. You can give it a very simple job by setting an intention such as, “Let this remind me to come back to myself.”
There is another side of grounding that I don’t think we talk about enough.
When I feel stable, I trust myself more.
I can look at something happening in my life and respond from who I am now instead of immediately falling into an old fear. I can remember what I have already handled. I can see the experience underneath me instead of only seeing the problem in front of me.
Sometimes I actually stop and think about something I am handling now that would have completely overwhelmed me years ago.
That can be eye-opening.
We don’t always notice our own strength because we are busy using it.
We get through something difficult, learn from it, adjust, and keep going. A few years later we are dealing with something else and forget that the person handling it has considerably more experience than the person who faced those earlier challenges.
Grounding helps me remember who is standing here now.
That became a big part of my new Reiki Distance Energy Healing Session for Grounding & Stability with Archangel Ariel.
This is a 45-minute session created for those times when you feel scattered, overwhelmed, energetically drained, or like you need to get your feet back underneath you. We work with Reiki, grounding, energetic boundaries, calling your energy back, and reconnecting with the strength you have already built.
There is also a guided portion where I ask you to recognize something you can handle now that might have overwhelmed an earlier version of you. I love this because grounding isn’t only about calming down. Sometimes it is remembering that you already have more underneath you than you realized.
You can receive this session lying down, sitting comfortably, before bed, or anytime you need some space to settle. You don’t have to concentrate perfectly or feel anything dramatic. Some people notice warmth, tingling, heaviness, emotion, or deep relaxation during Reiki, while others simply feel peaceful or notice very little physically.
There is no Reiki performance review afterward. You don’t have to prove you received it correctly.
Just receive.
Then when the session is finished, come back to your actual life a little more settled than you were before. Drink some water. Move your body. Take care of one thing. Protect your energy where you need to protect it.
And maybe don’t open six new tabs.
