Lovely friends,
Archangel Gabriel has always made me think about those moments when you know there is something inside you that needs to come out. Maybe you need to say something you’ve been sitting on for far too long. Maybe you’ve got an idea that will not leave you alone, or you keep feeling pulled toward writing, teaching, creating, or trying something new. Sometimes you don’t even know exactly what it is yet. You just know something is stirring.
That is usually when I start talking to Gabriel.
I’ve worked with angels for more than 20 years through my intuitive work, Reiki sessions, meditations, and honestly, just my everyday life. One thing I’ve learned over all those years is that working with angels doesn’t have to feel formal. I talk to them. I ask questions. I ask for help when I’m stuck, and I pay attention to what starts coming up afterward.
Gabriel is one of the angels I turn to when I need help with communication, creativity, or getting clear about something I feel called to express. And yes, sometimes I ask for help finding the right words because apparently spending most of my adult life communicating for a living does not mean the words always cooperate.
Who Is Archangel Gabriel?
Gabriel is known as the Divine Messenger and is one of the most recognized angels across Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The name Gabriel comes from the Hebrew Gavri’el and is commonly translated as “God is my strength.”
If you’ve ever seen artwork of an angel appearing with an important announcement, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Gabriel.
In the Christian Bible, Gabriel appears in the Book of Daniel to help Daniel understand his visions. In the Gospel of Luke, Gabriel announces to Zechariah that Elizabeth will have a son, John the Baptist, and later appears to Mary with the announcement that she will give birth to Jesus.
In Jewish tradition, Gabriel is also associated with divine messages, strength, and carrying out God’s instructions. In Islam, Gabriel is known as Jibril, or Jibreel, and holds an incredibly important role as the angel who brought God’s revelations to the Prophet Muhammad, including the revelation of the Quran.
I think knowing some of that history matters. These angels didn’t suddenly appear when modern spirituality became popular. People have been writing, praying, wondering, and telling stories about Gabriel for a very long time.
My own relationship with Gabriel comes through my spiritual practice rather than a particular religious tradition. I respect the history, and I also have my own experiences after decades of working intuitively with angels. I think there’s room to talk about both honestly.
What I Ask Gabriel For
For me, Gabriel is very connected to finding your voice.
And I mean that in a much bigger way than public speaking or having an important conversation. Finding your voice can mean finally admitting what you want. It can mean sharing something you’ve created, asking for what you need, teaching something you know, setting a boundary, starting a project, or saying the thing you’ve rewritten seventeen times in your head.
I’ve seen this come up so many times in readings. Someone will tell me they’re confused about what they should do, and as we talk, it becomes pretty obvious that part of them already knows. They’re worried about how someone else will react, whether they’ll make a mistake, or whether they’re allowed to want what they want.
I understand that because I do it too.
I’ve been putting my work online since 2007. I’ve recorded countless meditations, written articles, done readings, taught spiritual subjects, and spoken into more microphones than I could possibly count at this point. I can still have an idea I’m excited about and then immediately wonder whether anyone else is going to understand it.
That’s being human.
When that happens, Gabriel is one of the angels I call in. I may ask for clarity around the idea, help communicating it, or simply the courage to stop thinking about it long enough to actually begin.
And that’s an important part of working with angels for me. I still have to begin.
Gabriel can inspire me all afternoon, but at some point I have to open the document.
Gabriel and Creativity
I think creativity gets treated like this special gift that only belongs to artists, writers, or musicians. I don’t see it that way at all.
We’re creative every time we imagine a different possibility for our lives. We’re using creativity when we solve a problem, change the way we’re doing something, decorate our homes, cook without following the recipe exactly, come up with a business idea, or figure out a better way to explain something to another person.
Gabriel can be wonderful to work with when that part of you feels stuck.
Sometimes I will sit quietly and ask, “What haven’t I considered yet?” I like that question because it doesn’t demand some enormous revelation. It just opens the door a little wider.
I’ve had enough experience with intuition to know that the answer isn’t always dramatic. I might suddenly think about something differently. I may remember an idea I dismissed three months ago. Someone might say something later that connects a few dots for me.
I pay attention without making myself crazy looking for signs everywhere.
There is a balance there that I think is important.
How Gabriel’s Guidance Can Feel
People ask me all the time what it feels like when an angel is around, and there really isn’t one answer.
We’re different. Our intuition works differently. Some people are very visual, some feel energy strongly in their bodies, some hear words or phrases internally, and some simply know something without being able to explain where the knowing came from.
When I work with Gabriel, I tend to associate the energy with clarity and movement around communication. Something that has felt tangled can suddenly make more sense. I may know how I want to say something, or an idea starts coming together.
Other people may experience Gabriel through dreams, inspiration, a peaceful feeling during prayer, or a strong pull toward writing or creating.
And you may sit down to connect with Gabriel and feel absolutely nothing spectacular.
That’s okay too.
I don’t think every spiritual experience needs fireworks. After more than 20 years of doing this work, some of the most useful guidance I’ve received has been incredibly quiet. It made sense, I followed it, and only later did I realize how important it was.
Signs and Symbols Associated With Archangel Gabriel
Gabriel has accumulated quite a few symbols through religious history, art, and modern spiritual traditions.
The trumpet is probably one of the most recognizable. Gabriel is often pictured holding or blowing a trumpet, representing an announcement or divine message. Interestingly, the Bible doesn’t specifically say that Gabriel is the angel blowing the trumpet in Revelation. That association grew through later art and tradition.
The white lily is another traditional symbol, particularly in Christian artwork of the Annunciation. Gabriel is also sometimes shown carrying a scroll, which makes perfect sense for an angel associated with messages and communication.
In modern angel spirituality, you’ll often see Gabriel connected with white and golden light, and sometimes copper or orange.
I don’t get hung up on whether someone sees the “correct” color.
If you’re meditating with Gabriel and you see blue, I’m not going to tell you Gabriel can’t possibly be there because somebody’s angel chart says white. Your spiritual connection is personal, and I’ve learned to leave some room for that.
How I Connect With Archangel Gabriel
I keep this pretty simple.
I get quiet for a few minutes, take a breath, and invite Gabriel in. Sometimes I’m meditating. Sometimes I’m journaling. Sometimes I’m sitting at my desk staring at something that isn’t working and thinking, “Okay Gabriel, what am I missing here?”
You can speak out loud or quietly in your mind. You don’t need a special setup.
One of my favorite questions to ask is:
“Archangel Gabriel, what am I ready to express or explore next?”
Then I give it some room.
You may immediately have a thought. You may feel drawn toward something. You might write for a few minutes and surprise yourself with what comes out. Or nothing may happen right then, and two days later you suddenly realize what you want to do.
I don’t put a deadline on Spirit.
I also don’t hand every decision over to Spirit. I want guidance beside me while I make my choices. I still use common sense, look at the circumstances, and decide what works for my actual life.
That relationship has served me well for a long time.
A Simple Prayer to Archangel Gabriel
If you’re unsure what to say, you can start here and make it your own:
Archangel Gabriel, I invite your loving presence and guidance. Help me hear what I need to hear and find the words for what I need to express. Please bring clarity to the ideas and opportunities that are for my highest good, and help me have the courage to follow through when I recognize my next step.
Help me communicate with honesty and kindness, trust the gifts Spirit has given me, and stay open to inspiration. Thank you for walking beside me as I learn, create, and grow. Amen.
I think prayer works best when it sounds like you. If those aren’t your words, change them. Talk to Gabriel the way you naturally talk to Spirit.
Try Writing With Gabriel
Gabriel and journaling make a lot of sense together, especially if your mind has been busy.
I’ve had plenty of times when I didn’t know what I thought about something until I started writing. Five minutes later, there it was on the page, and apparently I had an opinion after all.
If you want to try this with Gabriel, sit down with your journal and write:
What have I been wanting to say, create, or explore?
Then keep going.
Don’t worry about whether you’re channeling Gabriel or whether every sentence is spiritually significant. You’re giving yourself room to hear your own thoughts while inviting spiritual support into the process.
You may notice that you’ve been circling the same idea for months. Maybe there’s a conversation you know you need to have. Maybe you miss doing something creative. Maybe you’ve been waiting for permission to try something new.
Sometimes seeing it written down is enough to make us realize how long it’s been asking for our attention.
Crystals and Essential Oils I Associate With Gabriel
You absolutely do not need crystals or essential oils to work with Gabriel, but I know many of you enjoy using them, and I do too.
For Gabriel, I like clear quartz for clarity and intention, selenite for its peaceful energy, moonstone for intuition and new beginnings, and angelite for angel-focused meditation.
These are spiritual associations rather than scientifically established healing properties. I use crystals as part of my personal spiritual practice and as something tangible that helps me focus an intention.
With essential oils, Gabriel is often associated in modern spiritual practices with frankincense, lavender, and jasmine. Choose something you actually enjoy smelling. Spiritual practice becomes considerably less peaceful if you’re sitting there wondering when you can blow the candle out.
As always, use essential oils safely, particularly around pets, children, and anyone with fragrance sensitivities.
Gabriel, Reiki, and the Throat Chakra
Because I’m also a Reiki Master, Gabriel naturally comes into some of my energy work around communication and self-expression.
When I’m working with someone who feels stuck around speaking up, trusting their ideas, being visible, or expressing something important, I may invite Gabriel into the Reiki intention. I also work with the throat chakra in these situations because, in modern chakra practice, it is associated with communication and self-expression.
Sometimes there’s an emotional layer underneath the communication problem. Fear of being judged can make us quiet. Old experiences can teach us that speaking up isn’t safe. We may have spent years trying to keep everybody happy and then wonder why it feels so uncomfortable to say what we actually think.
That is where I may also call in Archangel Michael for courage and Archangel Raphael for healing and emotional support.
Reiki and angel work are complementary spiritual practices. They don’t replace medical or mental health care, and I think it’s important to be clear about that.
For me, spiritual practice and practical life have always belonged in the same room.
The Part Where We Actually Do Something
This may be my favorite thing about Gabriel.
Messages are meant to go somewhere.
We can journal about an idea, meditate on it, ask Gabriel about it, pull it apart from every possible spiritual angle, and eventually there comes a point when we have to see what happens if we actually do something with it.
Send the email.
Write the first page.
Have the conversation.
Sign up for the class.
Record the thing.
Ask the question.
Try.
I’ve certainly had ideas that didn’t go anywhere, and I’ve changed my mind plenty of times. That’s part of learning what fits us. I would rather explore something that genuinely interests me and discover it isn’t right than spend five years wondering what would have happened.
Gabriel reminds me that inspiration is an invitation. What we do with it is still ours to decide.

Is Archangel Gabriel male or female?
Gabriel has been represented differently across religious texts, art, and modern spiritual traditions. Many traditional religious sources use masculine language, while some contemporary spiritual practitioners experience Gabriel’s energy as feminine or nurturing.
I generally use they/them when writing about Gabriel because I don’t feel the need to assign a human gender to an angelic being.

I treat signs as personal experiences rather than proof. You can notice what feels meaningful while keeping your feet on the ground.

Gabriel is commonly associated with writers, artists, teachers, speakers, and other forms of creative expression. I personally enjoy calling on Gabriel when I need clarity around an idea or help getting my thoughts moving again.

Simply ask.
You can pray, meditate, journal, or speak to Gabriel in your own words. Explain what you’re struggling with or what you’d like guidance around, and then stay open to what you notice while continuing to use your own judgment.
What Gabriel Has Taught Me
After all these years, I think one of the biggest things Gabriel has taught me is to stop assuming that every idea needs to arrive fully formed before I can trust it enough to explore it.
Sometimes you get the first piece.
Then you work with it.
Then the next piece shows up.
That has happened so many times in my own work that I’ve learned to recognize it. I can have a tiny idea for a meditation, article, or project and have absolutely no idea what it’s eventually going to become. I start working with what I have, ask Spirit to guide me, and see where it goes.
Some ideas grow. Some change completely. Some get tossed into the giant imaginary closet where abandoned ideas apparently go to socialize with each other.
That’s okay.
We aren’t supposed to know the entire story before we begin living it.
So if something has been nudging at you lately, maybe you don’t need to figure out where it will lead yet. Talk to Gabriel. Talk to Spirit. Write about it. Give yourself enough quiet to hear your own thoughts.
Then see if there’s one small thing you’re ready to do with what you already know.
Much love,
