Lovely friends,
There is a really weird stretch of time that happens after something ends.
You know the old chapter is over. You may have even been the one who decided it needed to end. You have thought about it, talked about it, prayed about it, and probably gone over the whole thing more times than necessary. Then it finally ends and you think you should feel ready to charge straight into whatever comes next.
Except sometimes there isn’t a next thing yet.
I don’t think we talk about that part enough.
We talk a lot about letting go and new beginnings because those sound hopeful and productive. We don’t talk nearly as much about Wednesday afternoon when the thing is definitely over and your exciting new life has apparently forgotten to send you the itinerary.
That space can feel uncomfortable.
We are so used to knowing what our role is. We know where we go, who we talk to, what we do every day, what we are working toward, and what we expect to happen next. Even something we have completely outgrown can give our life a familiar shape.
Then the shape changes.
I think this is one reason we sometimes start looking backward after an ending. Familiar can feel very tempting when the future is still a blank page. We remember the good parts. We wonder if we gave up too soon. We start rewriting history a little bit because at least we knew what that life looked like.
I’ve learned to be careful with myself in that space.
Missing something doesn’t always mean I need it back. Feeling sad about an ending doesn’t automatically mean the ending was wrong. I can appreciate what something gave me, wish parts of it had turned out differently, and still know I am finished with that chapter.
Humans are complicated enough to feel all of those things at the same time.
I also don’t think we need to immediately turn every ending into a grand spiritual transformation project. Sometimes I need a little time to catch up with my own life. There may be feelings to work through, practical things to handle, habits that have to change, and empty spaces in my day that suddenly feel very noticeable.
That empty space can make us nervous, but I have started seeing some value in leaving it empty for a minute.
I don’t have to rush out and fill every opening just because it is there. I don’t need a replacement relationship, new project, new goal, or completely reinvented version of myself by Friday. There is something useful about letting myself discover what I actually want now that the old thing isn’t taking up so much room.
This is where I like bringing Spirit into the conversation.
I may ask for help releasing what I am finished carrying, especially the disappointment and all the thoughts about how I believed something should have gone. Then instead of asking Spirit to show me the entire next chapter, I ask for help recognizing what is available to me from where I am standing now.
That feels much more manageable.
I also work with Archangel Michael during times like this because endings can stir up fear even when we know we are ready for change. Michael helps me feel grounded enough to move forward without needing every answer first. I invite Archangel Raphael into my Reiki work as well, especially when there is emotion connected to what has ended and I want some healing support while I make peace with it.
One thing I have noticed about beginning again is that I never actually begin from zero.
Whatever happened in the last chapter came with me in some way. I learned things. I figured out what I can handle. I found out what I don’t want anymore. I probably discovered a few things about myself that I would have preferred to learn through a pleasant afternoon and a cup of coffee, but apparently life doesn’t always offer that option.
I have information now.
That changes the next beginning.
Maybe I speak up sooner. Maybe I recognize a red flag faster. Maybe I trust myself more. Maybe I choose differently because I finally understand what something costs me. Maybe I stop trying to make myself fit somewhere simply because I have already invested a lot of time there.
Those are real changes, even when nobody else can see them.
And eventually something new does begin.
Usually it doesn’t arrive with a giant NEW CHAPTER sign hanging over it. It may start with an idea, a conversation, an opportunity, a change in routine, or simply realizing that you are interested in something again. One day you notice you have spent more time thinking about where you are going than where you have been.
I love that moment.
It was part of what I had in mind when I created my Reiki Distance Energy Healing Session to Release the Past & Begin Again.
This is a 45-minute session for that space between chapters. We work with releasing some of the emotional and energetic weight connected to what has been, acknowledging what you have learned, and making room for whatever comes next. You don’t need to know exactly what your new beginning looks like before you receive the Reiki.
You can just be ready to make some room for it.
There may be a chapter in your life right now that you already know is finished. You don’t have to hate it to close it. You don’t have to pretend it didn’t matter. You don’t even have to understand everything that happened.
You can appreciate what was good, learn from what wasn’t, bless the whole messy experience, and keep walking.
The next chapter can introduce itself when you get there.
Much love,
Lisa π
