Lovely friends,
Of all the angels I’ve worked with over the years, Archangel Raphael holds a particularly important place in my spiritual practice. I’ve been a Reiki Master for more than twenty years, and Raphael is one of the angels I regularly invite into my healing sessions. I associate his presence with compassion, restoration, patience, and the kind of support we sometimes need when life becomes physically or emotionally exhausting.
I’ve also spent more than twenty years dealing with neurological problems of my own, so my relationship with healing is very personal. I’ve had countless medical appointments, MRIs, tests, and conversations with specialists about what is happening in my nervous system. I’ve experienced times when symptoms changed, when answers weren’t immediately available, and when I had to learn to live with uncertainty while continuing to look for medical explanations.
Those experiences have influenced the way I understand Raphael.
I believe in spiritual healing, and I believe the angels can offer tremendous support. But I also know that healing doesn’t always look the way we expect. Sometimes we’re looking for a physical improvement, and what we receive first is the strength to get through another appointment, the clarity to ask a better question, or the patience to keep advocating for ourselves.
When people ask me how to recognize the signs of Archangel Raphael, I think it’s important to talk about the experiences people associate with him while also remembering that spiritual connection is deeply personal.
You don’t need to see a glowing green angel standing in your living room to have a meaningful relationship with Raphael.
Although I have to admit, that would certainly get my attention.
Who Is Archangel Raphael?
Archangel Raphael is traditionally associated with healing, guidance, and protection during journeys. His name comes from Hebrew and is commonly understood to mean “God heals” or “God has healed.”
One of the best-known accounts of Raphael appears in the Book of Tobit, a text included in Catholic and Orthodox biblical traditions. In that story, Raphael accompanies Tobias on a journey, offers guidance, and plays an important role in the healing of Tobit’s blindness.
I find that story particularly meaningful because Raphael’s role involves more than simply appearing and making a problem disappear. He accompanies someone through an experience, provides guidance along the way, and helps bring about healing through a series of events.
That feels much closer to the way I’ve come to understand spiritual support.
In contemporary angel spirituality, Raphael is often associated with emerald-green light, emotional healing, physical well-being, Reiki, and compassionate guidance. Those associations are part of modern spiritual practice rather than details established by every religious tradition.
For me, Raphael has become one of the angels I turn to when I need support in caring for myself or someone else.
And sometimes that support is as simple as remembering to slow down long enough to recognize what I actually need.
What Are the Signs of Archangel Raphael?
There are several experiences people commonly associate with Raphael, including green light, feelings of warmth, dreams, intuitive impressions, and repeated references to his name.
I’ve worked with angels long enough to know that people experience spiritual connection differently. Some people are naturally visual and receive impressions through their mind’s eye. Others notice feelings, thoughts, dreams, or a strong sense of knowing.
I don’t believe everyone should expect the same signs.
In fact, I think we sometimes make ourselves so busy looking for a particular experience that we overlook the quieter ways spiritual guidance may be meaningful to us.
1. Seeing Emerald-Green Light
Green is probably the color most commonly associated with Archangel Raphael in modern angel spirituality.
When I work with Raphael during Reiki or meditation, I often use emerald-green light as part of my visualization. I associate that color with restoration, compassion, balance, and the intention to support healing.
Some people describe seeing green light in their mind’s eye during meditation. Others dream about green light or find themselves repeatedly drawn to that color while focusing on Raphael.
I think color can be a wonderful part of spiritual practice because it gives our minds something to focus on. If visualizing emerald-green light helps you settle into prayer or meditation, there’s nothing wrong with using that imagery.
But I wouldn’t tell someone that every green light they see is proof Raphael is standing beside them.
Sometimes green is simply green.
And if you’re experiencing unexplained flashes of light or changes in your physical vision, those deserve medical attention rather than automatically being interpreted as angelic activity.
Spiritual discernment includes knowing when something needs a practical explanation.
2. Feeling Warmth, Comfort, or a Sense of Peace
Another experience people associate with Raphael is a feeling of warmth, comfort, or calm during prayer, meditation, or energy work.
As a Reiki Master, I’ve spent many years working with people who describe all kinds of sensations during sessions. Some notice warmth or tingling. Others feel deeply relaxed, become emotional, or simply enjoy a quiet period of rest.
I don’t assume that every sensation has one specific spiritual explanation.
Our bodies respond to relaxation, attention, temperature, emotion, and many other factors. But I also respect that people may experience those moments as spiritually meaningful.
When I invite Raphael into a Reiki session, my intention is to create a compassionate, supportive space where someone can rest and reconnect with themselves.
I think that’s especially important when we’re dealing with something difficult.
Sometimes we become so focused on fixing a problem that we forget we still need care while we’re working through it.
3. Hearing Raphael’s Name or Noticing Repeated References
Have you ever been thinking about something and then suddenly started noticing references to it everywhere?
Maybe you’ve been learning about Raphael, and now his name seems to appear in books, conversations, videos, or articles.
Some people interpret those experiences as spiritual synchronicities.
I think they can be interesting, especially when they encourage us to reflect on something we’ve been asking about. But I also know our brains naturally become more attentive to subjects that matter to us.
When we start thinking about buying a particular car, suddenly we see that car everywhere.
The same thing can happen with spiritual subjects.
I don’t think we need to choose between finding personal meaning in an experience and understanding that our attention plays a role.
If Raphael’s name keeps appearing while you’re exploring healing or spiritual development, you can take a moment to reflect on what the association means to you.
What have you been asking for?
What kind of support do you need?
Is there something practical you’ve been putting off that deserves your attention?
Those questions may be more useful than trying to prove whether every coincidence came directly from an angel.
4. Dreams About Healing, Guidance, or Green Light
Dreams can be fascinating, particularly when we’re going through periods of change or uncertainty.
Some people describe dreaming about Raphael as a figure dressed in green, a healer, a guide, or simply a comforting presence. Others dream about hospitals, gardens, water, or situations involving recovery and restoration.
I enjoy exploring dream symbolism, but I don’t believe every dream needs to be interpreted as a literal message.
Our minds process memories, emotions, concerns, and experiences while we sleep. When something is important to us, it’s perfectly natural for it to appear in our dreams.
At the same time, I understand why certain dreams can feel spiritually significant.
If you have a dream that reminds you of Raphael, consider writing it down. Pay attention to how you felt, what was happening in your life, and whether the dream offers a perspective worth exploring.
I wouldn’t make a major medical decision based on a dream, but I might use it as an invitation to think more deeply about what I need.
5. Feeling Drawn Toward Rest, Nature, or Taking Better Care of Yourself
This is one of my favorite ways to think about Raphael’s guidance because it’s so practical.
Sometimes we ask for healing while continuing to push ourselves far beyond what our bodies and minds can comfortably manage.
We want to feel better, but we’re exhausted.
We want clarity, but we haven’t given ourselves a quiet moment in days.
We want to feel supported, but we’re trying to handle everything ourselves.
In my spiritual practice, I associate Raphael with those reminders to care for ourselves in ordinary ways.
Maybe you feel drawn to spend some time outdoors, get more rest, make an appointment you’ve been avoiding, or finally ask for help with something.
I wouldn’t automatically attribute every healthy impulse to Raphael, but I do think spiritual reflection can help us recognize needs we’ve been ignoring.
And sometimes the most meaningful response to asking for healing is taking the next practical step toward caring for yourself.
What Does Archangel Raphael Actually Help With?
In my spiritual practice, Raphael is the angel I most strongly associate with healing and compassionate support.
That can include physical health concerns, emotional recovery, stress, grief, exhaustion, and periods when we’re trying to regain our sense of balance.
But I think the word healing deserves a little more attention than it usually receives.
We tend to imagine healing as the complete disappearance of whatever is wrong. If we’re sick, we want to recover. If we’re hurting, we want the pain to stop. If something has happened emotionally, we want to reach the point where it no longer affects us.
Those are understandable hopes.
But having lived with neurological problems since 2003, I know that some health conditions don’t follow a simple beginning, middle, and end.
I’ve had symptoms that persisted, changes that required investigation, and medical findings that needed to be followed over time. I’ve learned that an MRI can provide important information without answering every question about what someone is experiencing.
I’ve also learned that living with uncertainty takes energy.
There have been times when I’ve needed answers from doctors, and times when I’ve needed to find a way to get through the day while those answers were still being worked out.
Raphael is one of the angels I turn to during those periods.
I don’t expect prayer or Reiki to replace medical treatment, and I wouldn’t encourage anyone else to do that either.
For me, spiritual healing can include emotional support, reflection, peace, and the ability to remain connected to myself while dealing with something difficult.
Those things matter even when a medical condition hasn’t changed.
My Personal Relationship With Archangel Raphael
I’ve worked with Raphael for so many years that inviting him into my Reiki sessions feels very natural to me.
When I begin a session, I invite the angels, loving ancestors, and Spirit guides to be present, including Archangel Michael and Archangel Raphael. Michael is associated with protection and creating a sense of safety in my practice, while Raphael represents the compassionate, healing intention of the work.
I enjoy that combination.
I’ve always felt that people need to feel safe enough to relax before they can fully settle into a meditation or Reiki experience.
Over the years, my understanding of healing has become much more grounded.
When I was younger, I think I was fascinated by all the possibilities of spiritual energy. I still am, but I’ve also spent decades learning about the physical nervous system because of my own health.
I’ve had MRIs of my brain and spine, neurological examinations, and conversations about findings that require specialized medical knowledge.
That experience has taught me to respect both the spiritual and physical sides of my life.
I can call on Raphael before a medical appointment and still ask my doctor detailed questions.
I can meditate while waiting for test results and still pursue appropriate treatment.
I can believe in the value of Reiki while understanding that it hasn’t been established as a treatment that repairs spinal cord damage or reverses neurological disease.
I don’t feel any conflict between those things.
Actually, I think my experiences have made me a more thoughtful Reiki practitioner.
I understand how vulnerable people can feel when they’re frightened about their health, and I never want to promise someone an outcome I cannot guarantee.
What I can offer is a compassionate spiritual practice and the experience I’ve gained from more than twenty years of working with energy.
That’s meaningful to me.
Archangel Raphael’s Symbols, Colors, and Crystals
If you enjoy using spiritual tools, there are several traditional and modern associations connected with Raphael.
The color most commonly used in contemporary angel work is emerald green. I use it frequently in Reiki visualizations and guided meditations because it gives people a simple image to focus on while setting an intention for healing and support.
Raphael is also associated with a staff and a fish because of the story in the Book of Tobit. These symbols have a historical connection to his role as a guide and healer.
You’ll sometimes see Raphael associated with a medical staff or caduceus in modern artwork, although the caduceus has its own separate history and isn’t a traditional symbol originating with Raphael.
As for crystals, I enjoy green aventurine, emerald, peridot, and malachite as symbolic companions for Raphael work.
Green aventurine is often associated with emotional balance and the heart chakra. Emerald has a long history of symbolic associations with renewal and love. Peridot has a lovely fresh green color that I associate with new growth, while malachite is frequently used in modern spiritual practices involving transformation.
These are spiritual associations rather than medically demonstrated properties.
You don’t need any of these stones to connect with Raphael, and I certainly wouldn’t want someone spending money they don’t have because they believe an angel requires a particular crystal.
If you enjoy crystals, use them.
If you don’t, your intention is enough.
How to Connect With Archangel Raphael
When someone asks me how to begin working with Raphael, I usually encourage them to keep it simple.
You can sit quietly, take a few comfortable breaths, and invite his presence into your spiritual practice.
You don’t need an elaborate ceremony or a room filled with candles.
I often begin by allowing myself to settle before asking for anything. If I’ve had a particularly busy or stressful day, I may spend a few minutes simply noticing how I’m feeling.
Then I call on Raphael.
You might say:
Archangel Raphael, I invite your loving presence into my life. Please surround me with your healing light and help me recognize the support available to me. Guide me toward the people, information, decisions, and opportunities that serve my well-being. Help me care for myself with patience and compassion, and give me the strength to take the next step that is right for me. Thank you for your guidance and support.
Afterward, give yourself a little quiet time.
You may notice a feeling, a thought, an image, or simply a greater awareness of what’s been weighing on your mind.
You may also feel absolutely ordinary.
That’s fine.
I think people sometimes put too much pressure on themselves to have a spiritual experience that looks impressive.
I’ve been doing this work for more than twenty years, and I still believe some of the most valuable moments happen quietly.
Can You Ask Raphael to Help Someone Else?
Absolutely. In my spiritual practice, I regularly include other people in prayers and Reiki intentions.
I believe we can hold compassionate intentions for people we care about, especially when they’re going through difficult experiences.
But I also respect personal boundaries and free will.
If someone has asked for spiritual support, I can include them in my Reiki practice with that intention. If they haven’t, I can simply offer a general prayer for their highest good without assuming I know what their healing journey should look like.
I think that distinction matters.
We can love people, support them, and hope for their well-being without trying to control how their lives unfold.
And if someone needs medical care, practical help, or emotional support, offering those things can be just as important as offering a prayer.
Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is show up in a way that actually helps.
What If You Don’t Receive Any Signs From Raphael?
Then I wouldn’t worry about it.
I know that’s probably not the answer people expect from someone who has spent decades working with angels, but I genuinely don’t think we should measure our spiritual connection by how many signs we collect.
Some people naturally experience vivid imagery during meditation. Others don’t.
Some people remember elaborate dreams. Others barely remember dreaming at all.
Some people notice physical sensations during Reiki, while others simply feel relaxed.
None of those differences tells me that one person is more spiritually worthy than another.
I also think we need to be careful about becoming so focused on signs that we stop making decisions without them.
You don’t need three green feathers, a perfectly timed song, and Raphael’s name appearing on a billboard before you’re allowed to take care of yourself.
If you need to rest, rest.
If you need medical attention, seek it.
If you need to have an important conversation, consider having it.
You can invite Raphael’s guidance into your life while continuing to use your own judgment.
That’s the kind of spiritual relationship I want people to develop.
What I’ve Learned About Healing After More Than Twenty Years
I think one of the biggest changes in my spiritual work has been how I understand the relationship between healing and acceptance.
When we’re dealing with something difficult, we naturally want it to change.
I certainly do.
I’ve spent years wanting answers about my neurological symptoms and hoping for improvements in how my body functions. I know what it’s like to feel frustrated when something doesn’t improve as quickly as you’d hoped.
But I’ve also learned that I still have a life to live while I’m working through those challenges.
There are things I enjoy, people I love, work I care about, and experiences I still want to have.
I don’t want every day to become a waiting room for the moment when everything is finally resolved.
That’s part of what Raphael represents to me now.
I can continue looking for medical answers while also finding ways to support myself emotionally and spiritually.
I can ask for healing without deciding that my life has to remain on hold until I receive it.
And I can appreciate moments of peace without expecting them to solve every problem.
After all these years, I think that’s a much more compassionate way to approach healing.
A Final Thought About Archangel Raphael’s Signs
If you’re wondering whether Raphael is around you, I would encourage you to pay attention to what happens when you intentionally invite his presence into your spiritual practice.
Notice the thoughts that arise, the feelings you experience, and the ways your perspective may change over time.
You may connect strongly with emerald-green light, dreams, or familiar symbols.
You may find that prayer or meditation helps you feel supported during a difficult period.
Or you may discover that your relationship with Raphael is much quieter and more personal than you expected.
I don’t think any of those experiences needs to be forced.
For me, Raphael has become a familiar source of spiritual comfort through years of Reiki work and my own complicated relationship with physical healing.
I still call on him.
I still appreciate the symbolism of his green light.
And I still believe there is value in making room for spiritual support while we do the very practical work of taking care of ourselves.
Much love,
