Lovely friends,
Some days I can sit down with every intention of getting something done and discover that my brain apparently has other plans. I have an idea, then another idea interrupts it, then I remember something I need to do, then I pick up my phone for one completely legitimate reason and somehow end up somewhere I never intended to be. Twenty minutes later I have accomplished very little and somehow feel tired from all the thinking.
Those are the days when I don’t necessarily need another idea. I need enough quiet in my head to hear the ideas that are already there.
This is one of the reasons I love working with Archangel Jophiel.
Jophiel is often associated with beauty, wisdom, illumination, creativity, positive thoughts, and helping us see things from a clearer perspective. I have always felt there is something very uplifting about her energy. When my thoughts feel cluttered or I am trying too hard to make something happen creatively, working with Jophiel reminds me to clear some space first.
I think we sometimes treat creativity as though it belongs only to artists, writers, musicians, or people who make things for a living. Creativity shows up everywhere. We use it when we solve a problem, decorate our home, figure out a new way to do our work, cook without a recipe, change something in our business, plan a garden, or suddenly realize there is another way to handle something that has been frustrating us.
Our minds need a little breathing room for that.
I know from my own experience that when I am overwhelmed, I can keep trying to think harder. That rarely helps. My thoughts start bumping into each other and eventually everything feels equally important. That is usually my cue to get out of my head for a few minutes and help my body settle down.
This is where I think spiritual practice and nervous system support work beautifully together.
I may close my eyes, put my feet on the floor, take a few slower breaths, and consciously relax my shoulders and jaw. Sometimes I will place one hand over my heart and one over my stomach. I am giving my body a signal that for these few minutes there is nothing I need to solve.
Then I invite Jophiel in.
I don’t make it complicated. I might simply say, โArchangel Jophiel, please be with me. Help me clear the mental clutter and see what I need to see. Help me make room for inspiration, beauty, and a fresh perspective.โ
I often associate Jophiel with a beautiful golden light, so I like imagining that light coming in around my head and moving gently down through my body. I picture it clearing some of the mental static and softening all of those thoughts competing for my attention. I am not trying to force my mind completely blank. I am giving myself somewhere peaceful to rest for a little while.
There is something important about that because creativity can get really difficult when our nervous system is overloaded. If your body is busy watching for problems, worrying about what comes next, or trying to keep track of twenty things at once, inspiration may have a hard time getting your attention. Sometimes the idea hasn’t disappeared at all. There is simply too much noise around it.
I also think this is why forcing creativity usually backfires on me.
I can stare at a blank page and demand that something brilliant happen immediately. Apparently my creativity does not respond well to threats.
I do much better when I create an environment where I can settle in and become curious again. That may mean putting my phone somewhere else, making coffee, lighting a candle, putting on music, taking ten minutes to meditate, or going outside for a while. Once I stop chasing the answer, I often notice something beginning to move again.
You can bring crystals into this practice too if you enjoy working with them. You certainly don’t need them to connect with Jophiel, but I love using physical objects as little reminders of the energy I want to work with.
Citrine is a lovely choice when I want something bright and encouraging around creativity, confidence, and forward movement. Clear quartz works well when my intention is clarity and focus because I can hold it while deciding exactly what I want help with. Amethyst is one I reach for when my mind is especially busy and I want the whole experience to feel quieter and more reflective.
You don’t need twelve crystals arranged in the perfect pattern. One is plenty.
You could keep one beside your journal, computer, art supplies, or wherever you normally create. Before you begin, hold it for a moment and decide what you want it to represent for you. Maybe your intention is clarity. Maybe you want to be open to a new idea. Maybe you simply want to work for an hour without mentally running in six directions.
Then call in Jophiel and begin.
I also like working with her when the issue has nothing to do with creating something. Sometimes we need creativity because life has become stuck. We keep approaching the same problem from the same direction and getting the same result. That is a wonderful time to ask for a different perspective.
One of my favorite things to ask is, โWhat haven’t I considered yet?โ
Then I leave it alone for a little while.
I may journal afterward, go for a walk, take a shower, make dinner, or get on with something else. I don’t sit there demanding an answer from Spirit. Some of my clearest ideas have arrived later when I was doing something completely ordinary.
That is also the intention behind my new Archangel Jophiel Meditation for Creative Flow & Mental Clarity.
I created it for those times when your mind feels crowded, inspiration feels far away, or you have simply been carrying too much mental noise. We work with Jophiel and Golden Light to settle the mind, release some of that clutter, reconnect with your own inner wisdom, and make room for creativity to start flowing again.
You don’t have to be an artist to use it. Use it before writing, working, making an important decision, starting a project, journaling, or anytime you feel like your brain needs a reset. You could even place your favorite crystal beside you, let yourself settle into the meditation, and then spend a few quiet minutes afterward writing down whatever comes to mind.
I think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to figure everything out while we are already overwhelmed. I am learning to respect the point where my brain has simply had enough input for a while. A little quiet, some Reiki, a meditation, a few minutes outside, or time with Jophiel can help me come back to myself.
And quite often, the idea I was chasing finds me there.
